About Blwm Festival

Blŵm is a community-rooted festival celebrating Muslim women, youth, children, and Welsh communities through a day of connection, creativity, wellbeing, and inspiration.

​

Hosted by the Muslim Council of Wales, Blŵm has been created to bring together the incredible pockets of work happening across Wales, from community groups and youth initiatives to women's organisations, creative projects, health advocates, educators, entrepreneurs, and changemakers.

​

The name Blŵm is Welsh for "bloom", reflecting our belief that every woman deserves the opportunity to grow, flourish, and thrive in her own unique way.

​

The festival will also serve as a launch for the new Welsh Muslim Women’s Network, shaped by the communities, organisations, and changemakers at the festival.

This will create a way to continue working together beyond the day, responding to the needs of women in our Welsh communities and building sustainable support and collaboration.

A Festival Designed for Everyone

At Blŵm, we've thoughtfully designed the festival to create spaces where women can learn, connect and flourish, while also welcoming families to be part of the day.

Women's Programme

Our indoor programme takes place within the beautiful rooms of Insole Court and is a dedicated space for women and girls.

This includes:

  • Inspiring keynote talks

  • Panel discussions

  • Creative workshops

  • Wellbeing sessions

  • Networking opportunities
     

These spaces have been intentionally created to encourage open conversation, meaningful connection and a comfortable environment where women can participate fully.

Family-Friendly Outdoor Spaces

Beyond the house, our outdoor festival spaces are open to families and include:

  • Children's Garden

  • Food court

  • Muslim women-led marketplace

  • Community stalls and outdoor seating

 

Our hybrid model allows women to fully engage with the festival - whether attending a workshop, networking, or speaking on a panel, while their families can continue enjoying the outdoor festival together. We hope this creates greater opportunities for women to take part while making the day enjoyable for the whole family.

Mens add-on tickets are available as a free add-on to a women's ticket, providing access to the family-friendly outdoor areas.

A Calm Start to the Day

Blŵm begins with a dedicated Calm Hour from 10:00am–11:00am.

​

We've intentionally designed the first hour of the festival to provide a quieter, more relaxed environment before the main programme begins.

​

This aims to create a welcoming experience for:

  • children with additional learning needs or sensory needs

  • families who would benefit from a calmer start

  • adults who prefer a quieter environment before larger crowds arrive

  • anyone who would appreciate time to explore the festival at a gentler pace

 

During this time, the Children's Garden will offer quieter activities and slower-paced play, while visitors can browse the marketplace, enjoy refreshments, settle into the venue, and familiarise themselves with the day's programme.

​

Our Opening Address will begin at 11:00am, marking the start of the festival's talks, panel discussions and workshops.

​

We hope this small change helps make Blŵm a more inclusive, accessible and welcoming experience for everyone.
